Discoverant’s Feature Extraction Solution: Time Series & Continuous Data Parameters
June 11, 2009
LAFAYETTE, Colo., June 11, 2009 – Aegis Analytical Corp., the leading provider of Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence software solutions, announced today its plans to enhance the unique Feature Extraction capabilities offered in Discoverant. This will provide users with the ability to work in Feature Extraction with additional continuous data types, including spectral data, in unique and powerful ways that give insight into what drives process outcomes.
Discoverant’s highly regarded Feature Extraction Module offers users the ability to extract features from specific regions of continuous data parameters for each batch or group of batches - variability, area under the curve, polynomial curve fit, slope, mean, minimum, maximum, etc., using an intuitive point-and-click graphical interface. The extracted features are converted to numerical quantities and saved so that they can be used alone or in combination with other process parameters from other data sources (e.g. process outcome data from LIMS) for statistical and graphical analyses including multiple regression and trending.

"With input from our growing user base, we continue to make value-adding improvements to Discoverant," commented Justin Neway, Ph.D., Aegis chief science officer. “The Discoverant Nexus data access platform provides end users with self- service access to all their process data, including data from paper records. It also provides the ability to automatically account for batch genealogy when making upstream / downstream correlations, and the ability to create new derived parameters by applying mathematical functions and by using Feature Extraction to create new discrete representations of continuous data. All of this can be used for analysis and plotting not only within Discoverant's integrated InVision analytics environment, but it is also available to external applications via an ODBC interface."
For the Fall 2009 release of Discoverant, the Aegis team will be adding options to Discoverant’s Feature Extraction capabilities to use any continuous parameter on the x- axis for the purpose of extracting discrete features from continuous data. This will include wavelength, wavenumber, frequency, mass-to-charge ratio, chemical shift and instrument-specific spectral units when spectral data are modeled in Discoverant as continuous parameters.
